The filter in a Diesel Particle Filter (DPF or soot filter) is essential to remove accumulated damaging soot particles from your diesel engine, however, it can normally only action regeneration if the filter’s temperature is very high. If you don’t drive regular long journeys at high speeds (thus, high filter temperatures) DPF regeneration can’t occur and the filter can break. However, DPF fluid, or DPF regeneration fluid, encapsulates the soot particles and causes them to burn at lower temperatures allowing you to do shorter journeys while protecting the DPF.
